1. Sell digital copies of your music
You can use a service like DistroKid to sell and stream your music on platforms like iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, etc… OR you can sell the music yourself using your own free online digital store.
2. Start a YouTube Channel to collect ad revenue on videos and songs
YouTube pays its partners a share of the ad revenue from ads placed on their videos. Just choose “monetize” after you upload.
3. Charge artists and producers for your lyrics
Upcoming artists and producers are always looking to cross-promote and expand their fan base.
If you’ve learned how to grow on social media and have a rather large fanbase, charging other artists for features is perfectly ethical, and is a great way to make some extra publishing money on the side…as long as the benefit is equal or they have a significantly smaller buzz than you.
4. Consult/teach other artists
If the artists has much less knowledge and much fewer fans than you, it’s perfectly fine to charge for your mentorship and guidance.
5. Sell brand merchandise
Raging fans don’t always necessarily buy music. There are many people out there who would prefer having something physical to hold on to as their souvenir. Ex. hats, shirts, signed cd’s, etc.
Question?
I’m sure there are many income streams that I missed in this post.
What are some other ways for independent artists to make money?
