5 Tips To Write Better Hooks

1. Be repetitive.

People like to sing along. If your hook has a repetitive element to it, people will be able to memorize and sing along much quicker!

2. Use less words.

Not only does saying less make the hook easier to memorize and sing along to, but when you keep your lyrics minimal, people are able to interpret them with their own meaning.

Having too many words can make people lose interest in a song, simply because they can’t process the words fast enough to mean anything.

3. Have a melody.

People fall in love with music because of the emotion it brings…and emotion comes from melody purely.

In music…

  • Rhythm = Movement/Energy
  • Melody = Emotion/Mood

Remember that.

4. Use familiar expressions.

People pick up on what you’re saying much easier when you talk how they talk.

Use phrases that people are currently using in everyday language.

5. Harmonize

I can’t even put what this does into words lol…just do it! lol

But no, in all seriousness…this is one the most powerful tools in music. Certain pitches go together to create different chords. The literal idea of these pitches fitting together in a way that’s pleasant to hear is called harmonizing.

This is a much more complex subject that gets into music theory. This short blog post can’t cover it all so so feel free to look into in more!
